When the D.F.F 's arrival on the Belgian political stage was proclaimed on May 11,1964, many observers took it for granted that it was a mere electoral vicissitude. In fact they were underrating the French's capacity for arousal following 1961and 62 Flemish demonstrations in Brussels, and the 1962-63 baleful linguistic legislation, as well as fanatical uproars from the Femish speaking about the Louvain affair in February 68.

Mouvement des Citoyens pour le Changement  / Citizens' Movement for Change

On October 24 ,1998, in Wavre, the first General Assembly for CMC Citizens approved the basic texts of the movement following a pulic debate in which every citizen from Wallony and Brussels was urged to participate and which went on for months. The Citizens' Movement for Change was thus no longer a mere movement for ideas. The decision was made through a political Motion passed on June 6, 1998 in Uccle. From now on the CMC was a political movement.

The MDC was formed in 1992 but it's just begun to exist as an autonomous political party.

The Progressive Democrats Party was founded by Des O'Malley and Mary Harney, and launched at the Party's Head Office, 25 South Frederick Street, Dublin. In his foundation address, Des O'Malley noted that "national morale is at an all time low", and committed himself and the new party to "breaking the moulds of Irish politics and giving the Irish voters a new and real alternative" to the Civil War parties then dominating Irish politics.
