Zimbabwe

Parliamentary elections in Zimbabwe. Results : the MDC won 57 seats in weekend parliamentary elections, to 62 for Mugabe's Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) and one for the small ZANU-Ndonga party.

Japan

Japan, General election. Results : the three-way coalition dominated by the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), was returned to power but voters sliced to 56 percent the two-thirds majority it previously held in parliament's Lower House. The main winner was the Democratic Party, which increased its seats in the lower house from 95 to127. Altogether, 35 women also won seats in the lower house of parliament.

(Saskatchewan)

Provincial by election in Wood River constituency. Results : the Saskatchewan Party won the by election in the southwestern riding of Wood River.The win gives the Saskatchewan Party 26 seats in the legislature against 29 New Democrats and three Liberals.

Uganda, Referendum on replacing non-partisan politics with partisan. Early results from the Ugandan referendum show a clear majority in favour of retaining the country's current no-party system.

Parliament confirms Lee Han Dong as prime minister (139-130).

Lawmakers elected opposition leader Mannasseh Sogavare as the new prime minister Friday. Sogavare won 23-21.
